Art Not Crime is a blog about the arts and creative freedom, about the need to wake up, stand up and speak out.
I’ve been a practicing artist for over 30 years. I’ve had my own gallery, taught art, worked in a community art studio, ran my own art business and been a volunteer arts worker for many years. I’ve also produced a lot of stuff that isn’t art, in the process learning a few things about business and marketing myself.
I started writing this blog with the intention of helping other artists and creative people to make a living from their work, but it soon became apparent that the threats to our freedom of expression are much broader. In my opinion, for example, copyright has been completely distorted from its original purpose – to protect authors from having their work exploited without payment – into an excuse for corporate giants to wield disproportionate power over the world’s creative output.
Art Not Crime was created by two artists who are both passionate about the field. We believe that art is a powerful tool for positive change, and we hope that you will join us in our mission to support and celebrate the arts.
